Rachel Maddow Fact Checks Pat Buchanan in a Follow-Up Segment
Last week I posted the video of a debate from The Rachel Maddow Show between host Rachel Maddow and MSNBC contributor Pat Buchanan. The debate focused on the Supreme Court nomination of Sonia Sotomayor by President Obama. Buchanan claims that Sotomayor was simply an unqualified "affirmative action candidate" for this job and that since her education relied on affirmative action, there are more qualified candidates that Obama could have picked. The debate spilled over to discuss affirmative action in a broader sense which Buchanan states is an "evil" program of which the primary goal is to discriminate against white males.

I think Rachel should have followed her instincts when she said something like "I usually don't post corrections of the comments of guest after the fact because its not really fair". Friday's debate was obviously meant to be a free-wheeling exchange (which was why it was kind of interesting) and not meant to be spot-on accurate. Each party, speaking off-the-cuff, gave the general tenor of their side's argument. If they had to spend time sourcing every statement they said nobody would have watched. I think this shows just what a touchy subject race is.
@trey So you're saying in a debate, it's okay to lie? It's okay to make things up and just hope that no one checks the facts? That kind of thinking is what's wrong with politics these days...
